With the options of focusing on print or broadcast media, creative or non-fiction writing or even teaching writing, the writing major has built-in flexibility to meet your needs. Writing majors are exposed to a wide variety of practical aspects in the field. With the opportunity to tutor in the Writing Center, writing majors also gain valuable work experience while assisting others in honing their own skills. As a writing major, you will also have the opportunity to assemble a portfolio showcasing your expertise to present for admittance to graduate school or to obtain a job in your chosen field.
The major in writing is part of the Department of English. The objectives of the Department of English are to educate students in written and oral expression, linguistics, the cultural significance of literature and literary history.
