Would you enjoy being a part of early adolescent development and learning?

Do you want to help young adolescents achieve their full potential?

If so, the middle childhood education major at Mount Union College may be for you!

With the theme “Caring Teachers Live What They Believe,” the program is marked by performance-based instruction and significant field experiences.

At Mount Union, middle childhood education majors demonstrate core values such as:

  • Nurture of early adolescents and needs of young adolescents;
  • Young adolescent development in the school context;
  • Philosophy and school organization of the middle school and of the role of the middle level educator;
  • Curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment appropriate for young adolescents;
  • Collaboration with colleagues, families, resource persons, and community groups;
  • Two broad and multidisciplinary teaching fields which encompass the major areas within those fields;
  • Variety of field experiences in diverse and middle level settings with divergent experiences and responsibilities.

A middle childhood education major prepares graduates for careers in schools, coaching, human service professions, corporate training and other areas.

At Mount Union, a middle childhood education degree includes licensure to teach grades four through nine and prepares candidates to specialize in young adolescent development. Students will emphasize their study in two of the following concentrations: language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. Students will also have the opportunity for reading and middle school generalist endorsements.

If you can see yourself teaching early adolescents or would like to study the development of young adolescents, you should check out the middle childhood education major today!
