The contest is open to all amateur photographers. All nature photos should highlight this region which includes the Great Lakes and the Ohio River basin.  All photos must be the original work of the artist. Negatives or digital files may be requested for verification. Ribbons will be given in each category. We will also designate BEST OF SHOW and PEOPLE’S CHOICE photographs.

There will be an open house artist’s reception March 5th from 7 – 9 pm.  Photographers, friends and families are all invited. Photos will be judged prior to this time. Talk to the professionals; find out how they decided on the winners.

Photo Contest 2010

The CATEGORIES are:

- WILD ANIMALS (no pets, domestic, or farm animals)

- WILD INVERTEBRATES (insects, spiders, etc.)

- WILD PLANTS

- WILD LANDSCAPES

In the above categories humans or human activity should not dominate the photograph.

- NATURE IN YOUR BACKYARD OR PARK 

- PEOPLE & NATURE (people interacting with nature)

- BLACK & WHITE (encompassing all the above categories)

- CHILDREN’S ages 8-12  (photos by children - no more than 3 photos total by each child)

- CHILDREN’S under 8  (photos by children - no more than 3 photos by each child)

All photographs must be mounted on rigid cardboard, not under glass or in a frame, and must be a minimum size of 7” by 10”. Matting is suggested, but not required. All photos must have the entry form attached to the back upper

  • left hand side and VELCRO HOOK DOTS on all four corners.
  • Each photographer is limited to three entries per category.
  • All entries must be received at the Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center by 4 pm. Tuesday, March 2nd.
  • The People’s Choice award will be based on ballots cast by people attending the exhibit through March 21st.
  • Entries will be on display at the Nature Center until April 5th. Extreme care will be taken in handling the photos, but the Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center cannot assume liability for loss or damage.
  • All entries must be picked up at the Nature Center after April 5ht and by April 15th.
  • The panel of judges will consist of professional photographers and naturalists. Their decisions are final.
