With the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr. in mind, dozens of college students volunteered their time throughout the community on Monday, January 19.

Around 80 students, staff and professors from Mount Union College volunteered at six Alliance locations Monday afternoon. As part of the collaborative effort, several groups of Mount Union students traveled to Canton to participate in service projects.

Alliance service project locations were the YMCA, where volunteers painted and worked with children; the Alliance Neighborhood Center, where volunteers washed walls and assembled art kits; the Alliance Area Domestic Violence Shelter, where volunteers cleaned and sorted a pantry and toy room; Alliance for Children and Families Inc., where volunteers built shelves; Head Start, where volunteers cleaned out classrooms; and the Alliance Community Coalition, where volunteers set up for the Celebrate America party at Robertson Heating Supply Co.
