Asia Revisited (July 2007)
Harold Hall recounts his two visits to Asia this past year visiting with former students and families, some of whom he met during his first recruiting trip for Mount Union College some twenty-two years ago.
In the spring, former students from Japan arranged for me to return
for a visit lasting two weeks that began with a birthday party in
Tokyo. Birthday cake and all it was a great time! This was the
beginning event of many dinners and spending time just catching up with
everyone during from Tokyo to Osaka and finally Hiroshima. It was a
time of recounting student’s times at Mount Union College, gatherings
in our home, ski trips to Colorado, Niagara Falls, Florida and too many
other places to recount.
My visit to Osaka kept me on the
move with a gathering for dinner, a visit to Baika College, a day
visiting the temples in Kyoto and spending the night as a guest of a
family of one of our former students.
Finally, my stay in Hiroshima was again a time of getting together with former students and families. One can never visit Hiroshima without visiting the Peace Memorial and Jogakuin Girls High School.
My two-week visit was filled with warmth of family, as I was able to feel a part of what I like to consider my very large “extended family” in Asia. That family continues to grow, as I was able to be with and enjoy the many children who are now a part of it.
Below are photo galleries that will help you to appreciate what the trip meant to me. Great and wonderful lasting relationships!
