Purple Raider Baseball Team Drops Bout with Ripon

Mount Union College's baseball team lost 12-8 to Ripon (WI) on Tuesday, March 11 in Florida.  The Purple Raiders are now 3-2 on their spring trip, while Ripon improved to 3-1 on the year.

Ripon opened the scoring with four runs in the first inning and never looked back.  The Raiders struggled on the mound sending four pitchers to the hill.  Mount Union Pitcher Mark Sabatino suffered his first loss of the year in two-plus innings of work.

Offensively, outfielder Grant Sevek went 3-5 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored.  First baseman Cory Slaybaugh had three hits, an RBI and a walk, center fielder Greg Ferrell was 2-2 with two RBI and two runs scored and shortstop Craig Knott added two hits and an RBI.

As a team, Mount Union scored eight runs on 13 hits with two errors, while Ripon scored 12 times on eight hits with no misques.

The Purple Raiders will return to action on Thursday, March 13 versus Rensselaer Polytechnic (NY) beginning at 3:30 p.m.
