Raiders Swept By Washington And Jefferson

Mount Union College's baseball team (17-14) was swept by Washington and Jefferson (20-12) in a doubleheader on Thursday, April 24 in Washington, PA. The Presidents took the opener 3-2 and won the second game 4-2.
In game one, Washington and Jefferson took an early lead, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Mount Union would remain scoreless in the top of the second and third innings, while W&J scored one more run in the bottom of the third.
The Purple and White would cut the lead within two in the top of the fourth when freshman/center fielder Greg Ferrell singled to left field. Sophomore/first baseman Cory Slaybaugh would double in Ferrell to make the score 3-1. The Raiders would threaten again in the top of the seventh when junior/third baseman Nate McFarland had a leadoff double. Pinch hitter Connor Nell doubled down to right center, scoring McFarland. The Presidents' pitching staff was too much for Mount Union to handle, finalizing the score 3-2.
Offensive leaders in the game were Slaybaugh, who went 2-3 with an RBI, McFarland who was 1-3, and Nell who went 1-1 with an RBI.
Taking the loss for the Raiders was freshman Cody Colly. He went 4.1 innings and had three strikeouts in the contest.

Once again, Washington and Jeffersons' pitching was too much for the Raiders to handle. Mount Union would score only two runs off of 12 hits, compared to the Presidents' four runs on six hits.
Mount Union's runs came off the bats of senior/ left fielder Andy Warner and Nate McFarland.
Individually, the Raiders were led by senior/right fielder Grant Sevek who was 4-4, Cory Slaybaugh went 2-3 with one double, Warner and McFarland both went 1-3 respectively as well.
On the mound for the Purple and White was Erik Miller who struck out three batters in his 5.0 inning outing.
