#18 Raider Softball Team Keeps Streak Alive
Mount Union College's softball team (25-3, 8-0 OAC) took both games of doubleheader from the Marietta Pioneers (12-10, 2-6 OAC) on Wedensday, April 9 at the 23rd Street Field in Alliance. With the wins Mount Union has now won a team-record 20 consecutive games.
The Raiders took game one 7-2 and won the nightcap 3-2.
In game one, the Raiders got on the board first as they put up five runs in the bottom of the third to make the score 5-0. Highlights from the inning included a solo home run from sophomore/short stop Meghan Simons, a two-run homerun from senior/first baseman Katie Olive, and RBI hits from senior/outfielder Erin Duignan and senior/pitcher Lindsey Royer.
The raiders would add two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on an inside the park homerun by sophomore/catcher Mara Palombaro to make the score 7-0 in favor of the Purple and White.
The Pioneers would add two runs in the top of the seventh but would get no closer as the game ended 7-2.
The Raiders were led offensively by Olive who drove in two runs and also by Palombaro who drove in two.
Royer added five more strikeouts onto her record setting career total to 592 K's.

Game two saw some great pitching from both sides as the game went into the bottom of the seventh with a 2-2 tie.
The bottom of the seventh started off with a double by Palombaro to straight away center field. After a sacrifice hit by senior Lee Negrelli moving the runner to third base, the winning run was driven in by sophomore/outfielder Meghan Allen to give the Raiders the victory 3-2.
The Raiders were again led by Olive, Royer, and Allen who all drove in one run to give Mount Union the victory.
The Raiders will continue OAC play on Saturday, April 12 when they travel to Wilmington to take on the Quakers. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
