Raider Softball Team Wins Two On The Road

Erin DuignanMount Union College's softball team improved to 11-3 overall after sweeping Allegheny (6-7) in a doubleheader. The Raiders won 5-4 in the opener and 9-6 in the nightcap on Wednesday, March 26 in Meadville, PA.

In the first game, the Lady Raiders took an early lead after a three-run from Kaite Olive.  Allegheny got on the board in the bottom on the first with a sacrifice fly from Rachel Ryan to make the score 3-1.  

After the Gators took a 4-3 lead, Mount Union rallied in the seventh inning as Erin Duignan notched a two-run double for the eventual win.

In the circle, pitcher Lindsey Royer improved her record to 7-2 on the year.  The senior limited the Gators to six hits, three earned runs, while striking out five and walking just one.

The Raiders took an early lead once again in the second game with a solo homerun from Meghan Allen in the top of the first inning.  However, Allegheny answered with five runs in the bottom of the first to make the score 5-1.  Mount Union would quickly add another run from Meghan Simons RBI double in the second trimming the lead to 5-2 only to have the Gators respond with a solo homerun by Marci Potuzko pushing the lead back out to 6-2.

The Purple and White would again rally for two runs in the fourth, two runs in the fifth and finally take the lead in the sixth inning and hold on for the 9-6 win.

On the offensive side, the Purple Raiders were led by Meghan Allen who was 2-4, Meghan Simons who was 2-3, and Erin Duignan who was 2-4 with two RBI.

Mount Union next host Walsh on Friday, March 28 at the 23rd Street Field in Alliance, Ohio.  First pitch to be at 3:30 p.m.
