Mount Union's Softball Team is 2-0 to Open Spring Trip

Mount Union College's softball team (2-0) defeated Rhode Island 8-4 and Emmanuel (MA) 8-0 to open 2-0 on its annual spring trip to Kissimmee, Fl.

In the opener versus Rhode Island, ace pitcher Lindsey Royer earned her first win of the season going the distance.  She surrendered four runs on 10 hits while striking out seven. 

Offensively, Katie Olive led the Raiders going 2-4 with 3 RBI and a homerun.  Meghan Allen was 2-3 with 2 RBI and Anna Horning was 2-4.  Lee Negrelli added a base hit and a pair of walks in the win.

In the second game, Mount Union defeated Emmanuel (MA) by an 8-0 count in a five inning mercy rule contest.  The Raiders scored eight runs on 14 hits. Pitcher Kellie Schmucker earned the win with four shutout innings of work.  She also added three strikeouts. Pitcher Devon Butler added one shutout inning in relief.

Offensively, Lindsey Royer was 3-3, Meghan Allen was 2-3 and Lee Negrellie was 1-2 with two stolen bases.  Erin Duignan went 2-3 with 3 RBI and Gabby Koprivec was 2-2 with 2 RBI and a double.

Mount Union will next battle Marian (IN) and Transylvania (KY) on Monday, March 10
