Purple Raiders Defeat Defiance but Lose to Ramapo

Mount Union College's softball team (5-3) defeated Defiance 6-1, but lost to Ramapo (NJ) 4-2 in eight innings on Thursday, March 13 in Kissimmee, Fl.

Against Defiance, star pitcher Lindsey Royer went the distance for her third win of the season.  She struck out a season-best 14 batters.  Royer is now 3-2 on the year.

Offensively, utility Lee Negrelli was 2-4 with an RBI, infielder Anna Horning was 1-3 with 2 RBI, outfielder Meghan Allen was 2-3 and Brooke Wesner was 3-4 with a double and two RBI.

The Purple Raiders scored six runs on 12 hits with three errors, while Defiance scored once on just two hits with three errors.

In the second game against Ramapo (NJ), the Raiders lost a close 4-2 contest in extra innings.  Mount Union pitcher Kellie Schmucker pitched seven plus solid innings with three strikeouts.

Lee Negrelli was 2-3 with a stolen base.  Lindsey Royer was 1-4 and drove in both Raider runs.  Meghan Allen added a hit.

Mount scored two runs on just four hits compared to Ramapo's four runs on 11 hits.

Mount Union will next battle Cortland (NY) and Coe (IA) on Friday, March 14.
