Mount Union College's softball team (15-3, 2-0 OAC) took both games of a double header from Walsh University (13-5) on Sunday, March 30 at the 23rd Street Field in Alliance.

Game one proved to be a one-sided affair as senior/pitcher Lindsey Royer pitched a complete game shutout and struck out six batters on route to her 11th win of the season.

The Purple and White got on the board first in the bottom of the third when Royer hit a two-run double that scored senior/outfielder Lee Negrelli and sophomore/third baseman Anna Horning to put the Raiders up 2-0. Royer would then come in to score on a double by senior/outfielder Erin Duignan to give Mount Union a 3-0 lead at the end of the third inning.

The Raiders would add three more runs in the fifth inning on a RBI double by Royer, and RBI singles by senior/first baseman Katie Olive, and freshman/catcher Mara Palombaro to extend the lead to 6-0. The game would end by the same score.

Mount Union was led by Royer on the mound and at the plate where she went 2-3 with two doubles and 3 RBIs.

Game two saw more of the same from the Purple and White, as the offense exploded for 12 runs.

Mount Union got on the board first on a two-run double by sophomore/short stop Meghan Simons and a RBI single by freshman/catcher Brooke Wesner to put the Raiders up 3-0.

After Walsh put up four runs in the top of the third, Mount Union added one more run in the bottom of the third on a RBI single by Duignan to knot the game up at 4-4.

Mount Union would then add three runs in the fourth, two runs in the fifth, and three runs in the sixth inning to give them the victory 12-4.

Royer was once again a top performer, reaching base every time at the plate, and knocking in three runs. The Raiders also saw two RBI performances from Simons and sophomore/outfielder Megan Allen.

The Raiders will continue OAC play on Tuesday, April 1 when they travel to Capital University. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
