Raider Softball Team Remains Unbeaten In OAC Play

Mount Union College's softball team (21-3, 6-0 OAC) took two from Capital University (13-10, 2-2 OAC) in Columbus, Ohio on Sunday, April 6. Mount Union won the first game 5-0 and the second game 12-1.

In game one, the Raiders scored their first run in the fourth inning.  Senior/pitcher Lindsey Royer singled as senior/outfielder Erin Duignan doubled and freshman/infielder Mara Palmobaro walked to load the bases.  Freshman/infielder Alex Lucak hit a sacrifice fly scoring one run. 

The Purple and White rallied again in the top of the fifth, scoring four more runs. Sophomore/outfielder Meghan Allen hit an RBI single, senior/outfielder Lee Negrelli scored on a wild pitch, and Duignan homered scoring two more runs.

In the circle, Royer (13-2)  went the distance, only allowing two hits while striking out eight.

In game two, Mount Union would jump to an early lead in the first inning scoring six of their twelve runs.  Negrelli and Allen would start the inning with back-to-back singles and Duignan would walk to load the bases for senior/infielder Katie Olive.  Olive drew a walk to score the first run of the game.  Lucak had an RBI single, scoring Allen, and freshman/catcher Gabby Koprivec would hit a two run single, making the score 4-0.  Sophomore/infielder Meghan Simons would score Lucak on a single.  Sophomore/infielder Anna Horning followed with another RBI single, scoring Koprivec, ending the inning 6-0.

Capital would score their only run in the bottom of the first with an RBI coming from pitcher Erin Willeke. 

In the circle, Kellie Schmucker would improve her record to 3-1 with four stikeouts and one walk in the contest.

Offensively, Mount Union was led by Negrelli, who was 2-3, Erin Duignan, who was 2-3, Koprivec was 1-3, and Lucak was 2-4 in the game.

With the win Mount Union extends its winning streak to 16 games.

The Raiders next battle Malone on Monday, April 7 from 23rd Street Field in Alliance.  First pitch thrown at 3:30 p.m.
