Raiders Sweep Doubleheader with Cortland and Coe

Mount Union College's softball team improved to 7-3 on its annual spring trip to Florida with a 2-0 win over Cortland (NY) and a 10-1 victory of Coe (IA) on Friday, March 14 in Kissimmee, Fl.

In the opener against Cortland (NY), Mount Union ace Lindsey Royer had her best performance of the spring.  Royer pitched a complete game shutout allowing just five hits with 12 strikeouts and only one walk in earning her fourth win of the season.  She is now 4-2 on the year.

At the plate, Royer helped her own cause going 2-3 with an RBI.  Lee Negrelli went 1-4 with a steal and a run scored.  Katie Olive drove in the second Raider run while Erin Duignan was 1-2 with a run scored.

Mount Union scored twice on seven hits with no errors as Cortland had five hits an no misques.

Versus Coe, Mount Union's bats came alive for 10 runs on nine hits.  Raider pitcher Devon Butler got the start and pitched five plus innings earning her first win of the year.

At the plate, Meghan Allen had three hits and three runs scored, Brooke Wesner was 2-4 with five RBI, Katie Olive was 1-2 with three RBI and three runs scored, Lindsey Royer was 1-3 with an RBI and Erin Duignan finished 1-4 with two runs scored.

Coe scored once on five hits with three errors.

Mount Union will concluded its spring trip on Saturday, March 15 with Kean (NJ) at 1 p.m. followed by a battle with Washington and Jefferson (PA) at 5 p.m.
