Raiders Take Two From Blue Streaks
Mount Union College's softball team (31-7, 12-4 OAC) took both games of an important double header against John Carroll University (15-19, 9-7 OAC) on Wednesday, April 23 in University Heights. The Raiders took game one 8-0 and game two by a score of 2-0. With the wins Mount Union tied a team record for wins in a season (31).In game one, the purple and white got on the board first on a sacrifice fly by sophomore/shortstop Meghan Simons that scored senior/outfielder Lee Negrelli to give the Raiders a quick 1-0 lead.
In the top of the third, two wild pitches allowed Mount Union to get two more runners across the plate to extend the lead to 3-0.
In the top of the fourth inning, the Raiders added five more runs to their lead on a double by sophomore/third baseman Anna Horning and a Grand Slam by Simons to make the score 8-0.
Senior/pitcher Lindsey Royer continued her dominance on the mound as she held the Blue Streaks to only two hits in four innings of work to give the Raiders their 30th win of the season.
Simons led the way at the plate for the Purple and White as she went 1-2 with the Grand Slam and five RBI.

Game two saw some more great pitching by Royer as she held John Carroll to just 3 hits in a complete game shutout while striking out five to earn 22nd win of the season.
The 22nd win extended Royer's regular season record for wins in a single season. The former record was 20, held by Sandy Kennedy in 1986.
The only runs of the game came by way of the home run; one by freshman/catcher Mara Palombaro in the top of the fifth, and another by senior/first baseman Katie Olive to give Mount the win 2-0.
The home-run hit by Olive gave her the individual record for most hit in a season with her ninth big fly. The previous record of eight was set in 2003 by Sheli Roden.
The Raiders will conclude the regular season on Saturday, April 26 at the 23rd Street Field where they will take on Heidelberg. Seniors will be honored during the game. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
