Seniors Lead The Way For #18 Raiders
Mount Union College's softball team (23-3, 6-0 OAC) took both games of a doubleheader against Malone College on Monday, April 4 at the 23rd Street Field in Alliance. The Raiders cruised to a14-4 win in the first and won 12-4 in the second.Game one saw the Raider bats come alive in the bottom of the first inning as they put up 12 runs on the Pioneers. Senior/pitcher Lindsey Royer started things off with a RBI single that scored senior/outfielder Lee Negrelli. Senior/first baseman Katie Olive extended the Raider lead with a grand slam that made the score 5-1. Other highlights of the first inning included a RBI single by Negrelli, a two-run double by sophomore/outfielder Meghan Allen, a two-run single by Royer, and another solo-shot off the bat of Olive to make the Raider lead 12-1.
Olive would add one more run for the purple and white with her third home run in as many at bats. The Raiders would add one more run in the ball game and take game one by a final of 14-4.
The Raider seniors lead the way as Negrelli went 3-4 with a RBI, Royer went 3-3 with three RBI and Katie Olive lead the way with a 3-3 performance with three home runs and a team record eight RBI.
On the mound, Royer extended her Raider record for strikeouts in a career with 587.

Game two saw the Raiders again jump to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on RBI hits by Allen and senior/outfielder Erin Duignan.
After Malone knotted the game at 2-2 in the top of the second, Allen and Duignan added RBI hits along with Royer to make the lead 6-2 in favor of the Purple and White.
An RBI double by freshman/second baseman Alex Lucak in the bottom of the fourth and homeruns by sophomore/shortstop Meghan Simons and Lindsey Royer extended the lead to 10-4 at the end of the fifth inning. Mount Union would also add two more runs in the sixth to end the game by a final of 12-4.
Olive led the Raiders at the plate in both games as she reached base safely in all seven at-bats, including three homeruns, a double, and three walks.
The wins extends the Raiders' team record with 18 straight victories.
Mount Union's next game will be on Wednesday, April 9 at the 23rd street field in Alliance where they will continue OAC play againts Marietta. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30.
