Mark Hawald

Head Coach


Mark F. Hawald enters his first season at the helm of the Purple Raider wrestling program.

Hawald, 25, a native of Solon, Ohio, comes to Mount Union from Notre Dame College (OH), where he served as the College’s assistant wrestling coach this past year.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from John Carroll University in May of 2005 and is currently pursuing a master’s in business administration from John Carroll. As a four-year letterwinner at 174 pounds at John Carroll, Hawald became the Blue Streaks’ all-time wrestling leader in career wins (122). He was also a four-time Ohio Athletic Conference Champion and a 2004 Division III All-American.

Academically, he earned All-American honors three times and was John Carroll’s Clyde Lamb Award winner in 2005, in recognition of the institution’s top male student-athlete.

Rich Eslich

Assistant Coach


Rich Eslich, 32, a graduate from John Carroll University with a degree in English, enters his first year as an assistant wrestling coach at Mount Union. Eslich, a two-time Ohio Athletic Champion at Heavyweight (’98 & ’99), earned All-American status by placing fourth at the Division III Wrestling Nationals as a junior in 1998 and was the Division III National Champion a HWT in 1999 - posting a perfect 29-0 record as a senior that winter. He is married to wife, Katie, and has two daughters – two-year old, Isabelle, and one-year old, Laynee.

Andrew Wolf
Assistant Coach


Andrew Wolf, 26, a graduate of Indiana University with a degree in secondary education, enters his first year as an assistant wrestling coach at Mount Union. While at Indiana, Wolf was a three-year wrestling letterwinner (2001-04) as a Hoosier. He comes to Mount Union from his alma mater, East Central High School in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, where he was part of the school’s wrestling coaching staff.
