Mission Statement

Mount Union College Great Expectations Program is a four-year college preparatory program that uses the tenets of a traditional liberal arts institution to prepare students for all aspects of higher education. Instead of solely focusing on financial aid and the application process, this program seeks to prepare each student for a life beyond high school by developing and nurturing the whole person.

History

With a grant funded by the Bremer Foundation to establish a partnership between Youngstown City Schools and institutions of higher learning, the Mount Union College Great Expectations Program began in 1995 with a group of 8th graders from Youngstown's North Junior High School. Of the original students, 75 percent remained in the program until graduation; 95 percent of those remaining went off to an institution of higher learning; fifty percent matriculated into Mount Union College.

Currently, the program works with a group of ninth graders from Wilson High School and will continue with this group until their graduation.
