Mount Union's Greg Ferrell Earns Baseball Divison III Second Team All-Region Honors

Mount Union College freshman/outfielder Greg Ferrell (Uniontown/Green) was selected to the 2008 Division III Rawlings-American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Mideast Region Team, announced on Wednesday, May 21.

Offensively, Ferrell led the Purple and White in batting average (.411), slugging percentage (.612), hits (53) and stolen bases (10). He was also second on the team in runs batted in with 31 on the season.

Junior first baseman Cory Slaybaugh was awarded the Rawlings/ABCA All-Mideast Region Gold Glove.  Slaybaugh recorded a team-best 266 putouts and had .993 fielding percentage in 2008.

A total of 16 players were awarded First-Team All-Mideast Region honors, 22 were awarded Second-Team recognition, and 16 players were awarded Honorable-Mention status.

First-Team All-Mideast Region players are automatically considered for All-American nomination.

Earning Mideast Region Player-of-the-Year was Adrian College senior/utility Bobby Rickstad, Mideast Region Pitcher-of-the-Year was senior Michael Matsui of Rose-Hulman and Craig Rainey of Adrian College earned Mideast Regional Coach-of-the-Year.
