Mount Union Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader with Daniel Webster

Mount Union's baseball team (5-3) swept a doubleheader with Daniel Webster (NH) on the team's annual spring trip, Friday, March 14 in Tampa, FL. The Raiders won 14-1 and 17-1.

In the opener, Mount Union scored eight runs in the first inning alone highlighted by a two-run homer by shortstop Craig Knott.  Knott would later add a double and finished the game 2-3 with four RBI. Outfielder Grant Sevek was 3-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. First baseman Cory Slaybaugh was a perfect 3-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.  Dave Bogner added a triple two RBI and three runs scored and Andy Warner was 2-3.

Pitcher Paul Mariotti (2-0) went the distance for his second win on the season.  He struck out eight in the process.

Mount Union scored 14 runs on 13 hits with one error, while Daniel Webster scored once on two hits with six errors.

In the second game, Mount Union's Craig Knott continued his fury at the plate going 3-4 with a single, double, grand slam, five RBI and four runs scored.

Mount Union scored all 17 of its runs in the first three innings. Other offensive leaders included, outfielder Greg Ferrell who finished 2-2 with an RBI and two runs scored, outfielder Andy Warner was 2-4 with two doubles and three RBI, designated hitter Gregg 2-3 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored and first baseman Dan Henderson wsa 2-3 with two RBI.  Greg Ferrell and Matt Tracy each had a stolen base.

On the mound, Brett Thomas pitched a complete game for his second win on the year.  Thomas struck out six batters.

Mount Union scored 17 runs on 15 hits with two misques compared to one run on three hits with five errors for Daniel Webster.
