Raider Basketball Teams Qualify For OAC Tournament

Mount Union's men's and women's basketball teams have both qualified for postseason play and will participate in their respective Ohio Athletic Conference tournaments this week. Both teams have a 9-16 overall record and are 6-12 in OAC play.

 

 

DSC_6430.jpgThe Mount Union women’s basketball team has earned the # 7 seed in the OAC tournament and will travel to play #2 seeded Ohio Northern (19-6, 14-4 OAC) on Tuesday, February 26 at the ONU Sports Center in Ada,Ohio. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

 

The Polar Bears swept the regular season series between the two schools. Ohio Northern defeated Mount Union 48-45 in Ada on 1/19/08, and recently defeated the Raiders in Alliance by a score of 69-58 on 2/23/08.

 

Erin Brand led the Polar Bears in scoring during both games while Mount Union sophomore/guard Tessa Pohovey paced her teams’ scoring attack in both contests.

 

 

 

 

 

The Mount Union men’s basketball team has earned the # 8 seed in the OAC tournament and will visit # 1 seeded Capital (21-4, 16-2 OAC) on Wednesday, February 27.  Tip-off from The Capital Center in Columbus is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

 

Hood_0291.jpgThe Crusaders won both meetings between the two teams this year. On 1/09/08, Capital won an 83-67 contest in Columbus behind a game-high 18 points from Steve Kyser.

 

Capital then defeated Mount Union in Alliance on 1/13/08 by a score of 80-68. The Crusaders were led by Jake Fanning’s 16 points in that game while the Raiders were paced by sophomore/post Chris Crawford and junior/guard Chris Switzer, who totaled 20 and 19 points, respectively.

 

Capital is currently ranked # 13 in the country by D3Hoops.com
