Mount Union Headed at NCAA Track and Field Nationals
Members of the Mount Union College men's and women's outdoor track teams will compete in the 2008 NCAA Div. III Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday, Friday and Saturday (May 22-24) at Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
Individuals competing at the championships include senior Dan Gund (Madison) who has the nation's top throw in the shot put (59-00). Earlier this year at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships, he won the shot put event with a meet record throw of 59-00 and was named the men's Sparky Adams Most Oustanding Field Athlete of the Year.
Senior Matt Dawson (Painesville/Riverside) will also compete in the shot put. Dawson was second (52-09.25) at the OAC Championships. His top throw in 2008 is 54-9. Sophomore Judd Lutz (Bloomville/Columbian) will compete in both the shot and the discus. Lutz' top shot put throw in 2008 is 53-9 and his top discus throw is 160-8. Senior Jaime Simpson (Hilliard/Bishop Ready) will be competing in the discus competition. Simpson, who finished fifth at the OAC Championships, has the sixth best discus throw in the country at 165-2. Also, senior Pat Nicholson (Brookpark/Holy Name) will compete in the discus competion. His best throw in the 2008 is 161-0.
The lone representative on the women's side is freshman Annie Patton (Darlington, PA/Blackhawk) who will be competing in the javelin. Patton was the 2008 OAC Champion in javelin throw with a distance of 132-04. Patton is currently ranked fourth in the country with a top throw of 137-8.
