Men's Indoor Track and Field Opens Season at B-W Mid January Invite

(BEREA, OH)--Mount Union's men's indoor track and field team opened the 2010 season at the unscored B-W Mid January Meet at Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio.  Scott Thomas (Salem/West Branch) placed in three events to lead the Purple Raiders.

Thomas placed second in the 55 meter dash (6.69), third in the 200 meters (22.96) and teamed with Charles Pratt (Canton/GlenOak), Kris Claros (Mirmar, FL/Mirmar) and Brandon Stallworth (Cleveland/VASJ) to a fourth place finish in the 4x200 meter relay (1:33.53).

Judd Lutz (Tiffin/Tiffin Columbian) placed second in the shot put (48-4.5) while other second place finishes came from Kory Smerk (Middleburg Heights/Midpark) in the 400 meters (51.14) and Cory Hoover (Alliance/Marlington) in the 500 meters (1:08.88).

Quinten Jones (Linthicum, MD/North County) placed fourth in the long jump (20-8) while Ty Griffin (Massillion/Massillion Perry) and Tim Kelly (Lakewood/Lakewood) finished fourth (4:18.00) and fifth (4:22.01) and fifth respectively in the 1 mile run to round out the top performances.

Mount Union heads back to Berea next Saturday (Jan. 30) for the Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Relay Meet.
