Schindel 197 Champion and #28 Wrestling Finishes 11th Wheaton (IL) Pete Wilson Invite
(WHEATON, IL)--Mount Union All-American junior Bill Schindel (Tallmadge/Akron Hoban) won the 197-pound title and led the Purple Raiders to an 11th place finish at the Pete Wilson Invitational at Wheaton College in suburban Chicago, IL.Schindel, who knocked off Troy Carlson of the University of Chicago, 6-4 in the finals, was one of three place winners for Mount Union as freshman Riki Reynolds (Marion/Marion Pleasant) placed fifth at 125 pounds and senior Richie Clark (Solon/Solon) placed seventh at 149 pounds.
Junior John Piechuta (Alliance/Marlington) missed being a place winner after a tough 4-3 loss to Tim Pope of Mt. St. Joseph in the final match in the wrestleback bracket.
The Raiders finished with 57.5 points which was just a point behind 10th place Ohio Northern. NCAA Division II Wisconsin-Parkside won the event for a second consecutive season with 175.5 points.
Mount Union travels to Wilmington for an OAC dual next Tuesday (Feb. 2) at 7:30 pm in Wilmington, Ohio.
