With only one starter, just eight letterwinners and only two seniors on the entire roster, the future is now for fourth-year head coach Suzy Venet and the Mount Union College’s women’s basketball in 2008-09.

Junior guard Tessa Pohovey is that lone returning starter as she was the second on the team in scoring (8.6 ppg), three-pointers (31), assists (42) and steals (18) last year and is also the top returning three-point shooter in the OAC (31-of-72, .431). While they have not started many games, the other seven returning letterwinners each played in at least 18 games.

That group is led by sophomore guards Katie Crider and Lauren Forquer along with senior forward Stephanie Schwartz. Crider averaged 7.2 points per game, made a team-best 39 three pointers and was sixth in the OAC in three point percentage (.379), Forquer came off the bench in 25 games and averaged 3.7 points and 3.2 rebounds per game while Schwartz posted 4.5 points and 3.1 rebounds per game, joins Pohovey as the only two returning Raiders to play in all 27 games. Also back for the Raiders is senior forward Brooke Ghilani, who did not play last year, but played in 53 games from 2005-07. Last but not least, as many as 10 different freshman, with four that earned All-Ohio honors in high school, will each be looked at to contribute.

Aside from the always challenging OAC schedule, the Raiders non-conference slate includes a game against Case Western Reserve University January 2 prior to a Cleveland Cavaliers game at Quicken Loans Arena.
