Mount Union Softball Cruises In NCAA Regional Opener

Mount Union College's softball team (37-8) allowed just two hits en route to a 6-0 win over #7 seeded Hunter College, NY (22-20) to open the 2008 NCAA Div. III Softball Regional Tournament on Thursday, May 8 in Glassboro, NJ.
Mount Union starter and Ohio Athletic Conference Player-of-the-Year, Lindsey Royer, was sensational in the circle allowing just two hits with seven strikeouts and no walks. Royer improved to 27-4 on the season.
Offensively, the Raiders scored a run in the second, three in the fourth and two in the sixth innings. Outfielder Erin Duignan went 3-3 with one RBI and two runs scored, center fielder Meghan Allen was 1-4 with a double, two RBI and second baseman Alex Lucak was 1-3 with a double and two RBI to lead Mount Union.
The Raiders, the #2 seed, will next battle the #6 seed Denison (26-10) on Friday, May 9 at 2 p.m. Earlier in the day Denison defeated #3 Rowan, 10-1.
