Muskingum Defeats Mount Union Setting Up Decisive Championship Game Rematch

#1 seed Muskingum (36-8) scored four runs in the fifth inning to pull away from #2 seed Mount Union (35-8), 8-3, at the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday, May 3 in New Concord. With the double elimination format, Mount Union and Muskingum will square-off for a decisive game two for the OAC crown on Sunday.
Both offensives struck early as the Muskies jumped out with two runs in the top of the first inning while the Raiders answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first. First baseman Meghan Simons hit a two-run double to even the score 2-2.
Muskingum scored two runs in the third and then struck again for four runs in the fifth to open up an 8-2 lead. Mount Union added one more run off a Meghan Allen double in the seventh.
Individually, the Raiders were led by Allen who went 2-4 with one RBI and Simons who finished 2-3 with a double and two RBI.
Sunday's championship game will begin at 11 a.m.
