#13 Raider Softball Takes One In Doubleheader

Anna HorningMount Union College's softball team (26-6, 9-3 OAC) split a doubleheader with Wilmington  College (7-23, 1-11 OAC) on Wednesday, April 16 in Wilmington, Ohio.  The Raiders won the first 15-0 but lost the second game 5-3.

Game one saw senior/pitcher Lindsey Royer pitch six solid innings while striking out 10 Quakers.

The Raiders' first score came off the bat of freshman/second baseman Alex Lucak in the top of the second inning driving in senior/outfielder Erin Duignan to give the purple and white an early 1-0 lead.

Mount Union would score again in the top of the fourth inning on a three-run blast to left center by sophomore/third baseman Anna Horning to extend the lead to 4-0. Mount Union would also put up seven runs in the fifth inning and four runs in the sixth to make the final score 15-0.

The Raiders were led by Horning who had a 3-4 game with four RBI and a home run. Seniors Duignan and Royer tallied three RBI each.

In the second game, Wilmington took a 2-0 lead going into the fourth inning before the Raider bats came alive scoring three runs on RBI singles by Horning, freshman/designated hitter Jill Rader and sophomore/outfielder Meghan Allen to give the Purple and White the lead, 3-2.

Wilmington, however, would add three more to their total, and hold off the Raiders down the stretch.

Individually, Mount Union was again led by Anna Horning who was 2-4 with one RBI.  Rader finished 2-3 from the plate with a run scored and one RBI.  Starting pitcher Kellie Schmucker took the loss. 

The Raiders will continue OAC play against Ohio Northern University on Saturday April 19, at the 23rd Street Field in Alliance. The first pitched is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
