Mount Union College's softball team (19-3, 4-0 OAC) took both games of a doubleheader against Otterbein (7-8, 2-4 OAC) on Saturday, April 5 in Westerville, Ohio.  The Purple Raiders won the opener 3-2 and the second game 7-4.

In game #1, senior Lindsey Royer pitched a complete game while striking out 10 Otterbein hitters to earn her league leading 12th win of the season.

The Raiders got on the board first in the top of the third inning on a sacrifice fly by senior/first baseman Katie Olive and an RBI single by sophomore/catcher Mara Polombaro to make the score 2-0 Mount Union.

Otterbein answer back in the bottom of the fourth to close the lead to 2-1. The score would stay that way until the seventh inning when the Purple and White extended their lead on a solo home run to left-center field by Royer to make the score 3-1 in favor of the Raiders. The Cardinals were only able to add one more in the bottom of the seventh as Royer closed the door to give Mount Union their 18th win of the season, 3-2.

In game two, the Raiders jumped on the Otterbein pitching early. The first two batters of the game reached base safely and Royer hit her second home run of the day to give Mount Union a 3-0 lead. The Raiders would also add another run off the bat of Royer to make the score 4-0 in the top of the second inning.

Mount Union would extend their lead even further in the top of the fourth inning on a two-run single by senior/outfielder Erin Duignan to make the lead 6-0 and miscues by the Otterbein defense would allow another Raider run to cross the plate to make the score 7-0.

Otterbein would cut the lead to 7-4 in the bottom half of the seventh inning, but the Raider pitching staff again stood firm to gave the Raiders their league best 19th win of the season.

Royer again was the head of the Raider attack both on the mound and at the plate as she went 6-8 with 5 RBIs and two home runs on the day.

Mount Union's next match up will be a non-conference match against Malone College on Monday, April 7 at the 23rd street field in Alliance. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
