Women's Tennis Falls in Marathon Match With Top-Seeded Ohio Northern in OAC Tournament Semifinals

(MASON, OH)--Fourth-seeded Mount Union College saw its women's tennis season come to an end after a 5-1 loss to top-seeded Ohio Northern University in the semifinals of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament. The match which started an hour late due to the men's semifinals running long, began outside at the Lindner Tennis Center then after a 54-minute rain delay was moved inside to the Queen City Racquet Club.
Ohio Northern (19-5) advances to Saturday's final against the winner of the other semifinal between Baldwin-Wallace College and Otterbein College.
Mount Union, in the semifinals for a fifth straight year, ends its season with a 15-7 mark as the 15 wins represent the second highest win total in school history behind a school-record 17 wins in 2005.
After winning the first two doubles points, Ohio Northern took a commanding 3-0 lead with a hard fought 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles as Jacki Hillis and Katie Gibbs held off sophomore Mari Miki (Alliance, Ohio/Kihjo, Japan) and junior Tara Biedenbach (Canton/Canton Central Catholic).
Mount Union's lone point came from sophomore Mary-Catherine Beck (Alliance/St. Thomas Aquinas) as she scored a 7-5, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.
