Dec. 1-2 at Petrofes Invitational... Mount Union's wrestling team placed sixth with a score of 81 total points at the Lebanon Valley Invitational (PA) on Saturday. Leading the way for the Raiders was sophomore Dan Anderson (Cleveland/Chardon) who won the individual title at 165 pounds. Junior Brian Kostura (North Royalton) finished third at 184 pounds as did sophomore Drew Zollars (Canton/Perry) at 157. Freshman Jeremy Rohr (Massillon/Washington) placed fourth at 133 pounds while junior Andy Clark (North Canton/Lake) placed fifth at 133 pounds
Dec. 28-29 at Wilkes Open...Dan Anderson (125) reached the quarterfinals with a 2-2 overall mark...Andy Clark (149), Drew Zollars (157) and Brian Kostura (184) each went 1-2 in the Open, which included wrestlers from Div. I, Div. II & Div. III.

Mar. 2-3 NCAA Championships...Mount Union sophomore Dan Anderson (Cleveland/Chardon) earned All-American status for the second time placing fifth overall at the Division III Wrestling Championships held at Waverly, Iowa. He took sixth at Nationals last year.
Anderson, a #3 seed at 165 pounds and a two-time Ohio Athletic Conference Champion, won his first three matches on Friday. He posted consecutive wins over Nick Patenaude of Wisconsin LaCrosse (fall/5:53), James Gilbert of Johnson Wales (5-1) and James Henderson of The College of New Jersey (11-5). During Saturday's competition, he lost to #2 seed Dan Weber of Wheaton (8-5) and #6 seed Tony Abbott of Augsburg (5-4). He then defeated #5 seed Dustin Cichocki of Olivet (def;f.) to finish fifth overall in the 165 pound bracket.
Purple Raider junior Joe Metcalf (Parma/Padua), a two-time OAC Champion at 125 pounds, also competed at Nationals. Metcalf suffered losses to Mike Jones of Olivet (9-2) and Greg Lehman of Illinois College (8-5) during Friday's action.
Anderson finishes the season with a 27-7 overall record while Metcalf was 12-4 this winter for Mount Union.
