International Students Library Orientation 2006-07
Welcome!
We are here to help you!! Below are listed some tips to help you learn a little more about Mount Union College Library Services. We hope you enjoy your tenure here at Mount Union. Stop by the library for a visit!
- Everything in the Library is yours to use: books, videos, CD-ROMs, computers, magazines, and newspapers. While some of the items are available for use only within the library, most can be loaned to you to use outside of the library, free of charge.
- We are here to help you--that's what we love to do! If you have a question about finding information, how to use a computer or database, or just need to find a pencil sharpener, please ask!
- There are four floors of library materials. To find the locations of library items, click here. There are also printed location guides available on the first floor across from the Circulation Desk.
- There are many quiet study areas throughout the building. There are also study rooms that can be used for group work. These rooms can be found on the second floor of the "new" building.
- Call numbers are assigned to items to help you find materials in the Library. The library here uses the Dewey Decimal Classification System to assign call numbers to it's materials.
- You can gain access to databases and other resources through the Mount Union College Library website.
Remember, we are here to help you!
Library Hours
Library hours vary according to the academic calendar, holidays, and semester breaks. After checking the appropriate calendar(s) below, please call the library if you still have questions.
Lending Policies
As a full partner in the educational mission of Mount Union College, the library's holdings are designed to complement the college curriculm and to aid faculty and students in their research and learning. Our first priority is to have materials available for Mount Union College faculty, students and staff. Anyone working at or attending an OPAL or OhioLINK institution may also borrow materials. The public is welcome into the library to use our resources on the premises. To view a complete listing of our circulation policies, click here.
Copiers
There are 3 copiers available in the Library, two on the first floor (Periodical Room), and one on the second floor (near the Rare Book Room). Cash can be used with all of them. Students, faculty and staff can use their Purple Plu$ card to purchase copies. Copies are $.05 cents.
Computers & Printing
Computers throughout the Library offer the full range of library-related resources. Network printing is available with all of these workstations.
Microforms
There are four machines located in the Microform room of the library capable of producing prints. Prints are $.10 cents.

Library Research
Find Books and other Library Materials
To find books and other library materials that the library owns, use our online catalog.
If you don't find what you need in our catalog, search the OPAL catalog to find items held at other Ohio private academic libraries. If you find the material you are looking for, you can request the item.
If you don't find what you need in the OPAL catalog, search the OhioLINK Library Catalog. If you find the material you are looking for, you can request the item.
If you don't find what you need in the OhioLINK Library Catalog, you will need to use our Interlibrary Loan program (see link below).
Find Articles
If you want to search for journals, magazines, or newspaper articles, use our databases. These databases allow you to search across many sources at once for articles on your topic. Mount Union College Library has access to over 180 databases. These databases can be accessed from on or off campus.
To access our databases from off-campus some information will be required.
Access is limited to current Mount Union College students, faculty and staff. Remote access to electronic resources is available from the Research by Subject web page /library/research_databases.aspx '- by using the information found on your Purple Plu$ card. (LAST NAME and BARCODE NUMBER)
The authentication page will say:
