Steven Kenneally and his son“Me and my dad!”, written by Alison Ritchie and illustrated by Alison Edgson, is a sweet story that chronicles a day shared between a young bear cub and his father.  The story begins with the father kissing the nose of the young cub and ends with the two snuggling and preparing for a long night’s rest.  I read to my son each night before bedtime and this book consistently lands on the list of books he chooses.  The story is written from the cub’s perspective, brimming with the respect and pride he has for his father and the love and devotion the father has for the cub.  Softly and colorfully illustrated, the bears share many adventures throughout their day.  My son’s favorite verse, which he requests to be read several times, is about the father bear keeping his cub safe during a thunderstorm.  The depiction is one of many showing the close and loving bond between the two.  The rhythms are both melodic and calming to the sleepy mind of both parent and child.  This is truly a warm and wonderful way to end the day.
