The House of the Scorpion, by Nancy Farmer is a must read book. The book tells a riveting story about a clone named Matteo Alacran, or Matt, who just wants to be thought of as a human.

For the first part of his life, he is in seclusion with his caretaker, Celia. One day, three kids discover him and he is brought to the main house to see El Patron. El Patron is the man who cloned him and is the ruler of the country Opium, or Atlzan. El Patron takes Matt under his wing and showers him with ravishing gifts; he gives him the life he never had. After he is found, a girl named Maria befriends Matt and he eventually falls in love with her. Matt also has two other people in his life who truly love and care for him, Celia and Tam Lin (his bodyguard). The story continues on with Matt discovering that El Patron needs him for a transplant. He goes on an adventurous journey to escape El Patron and, in essence, death. The House of the Scorpion, is a compelling novel with an intriguing plot and ending.
