Why did you choose to pursue an Economics minor at Mount Union?
I decided to choose an economics minor because I felt it would be a great compliment for a major in business administration. I felt it would help me to further understand the concepts of business in both the macro and micro aspects of the economy, and how each plays a key role in business.
What types of jobs are available for students who share your major or minor?
There are several jobs open to students who major or minor in economics, ranging from traditional business, government work, financial work, and even pursuing a career in law. The opportunities that exist for a student who studies economics are very vast.
How will you use your degree upon graduation?
Upon graduation I plan to continue my education and go on to graduate school and obtain my MBA. From there I will use my acquired skills from the classroom and outside experience to work in one of the many areas of business.
What activities are you involved in?
I am involved in the BEST Program (Bringing Executives and Students Together). The program involves meeting with senior executives and business owners in the greater Alliance area during the course of the academic year. We tour their facilities and participate in round table discussions. Classroom theories are applied to the executives' challenges and opportunities in the business-world.
What elements a person should posses to succeed in your major or minor?
I feel that any student who chooses to pursue a major or minor in economics should posses the ability to calculate algebraic equations, and also have the ability to critically analyze information, theories, and formulas, and be able to apply these elements to real world situations.
What advice can you offer for someone who is considering having the same major or minor as you?
I recommend that they work hard in their studies and look for work opportunities that will give them experience in the business world outside of the classroom. This will enable them to consider several different options upon graduation because they will have a better understanding of what it is that they want to do.
