Hometown: Kent
Major: Media Computing
Why did you choose to pursue your degree?
I have liked art since elementary school and computers since high school, so putting the two together seems like a good idea. I also like the challenges that this major has to offer. Not only do you have to be creative, but also very technical.
What types of jobs are available for students who share your major?
There is a very large variety of careers available for media computing majors. Any career that deals with creating visual and/or audible elements on a computer can be pursued with this major. Web designers, video game designers, graphic designers, media editors, sound editors and animators are only a few of the many careers in media computing.
How will you use your degree upon graduation?
I hope to start my career as a video game designer or sound editor. Eventually I hope to recieve a management position over a group of designers.
What activities are you involved in?
I am involved in the honors program, and I also work at the IT helpdesk.
Elements a person should possess to succeed in your major?
To be successful in this major, I have found that working beyond the classroom and persistence are key components. Also, since most of the work is projects, a great deal of time management and organization is important.
What advice can you offer for someone who is considering having the same major as you?
First of all, you don't necessarily have to be good at art to pursue this major. A lot of it is solving problems and being clever. The art aspects will be taught in other classes. The most important thing that has helped me is doing more than what is required. Going beyond what your assigned to do will not only give you a better grade, but it will also help you learn more about what your doing and will instill a lot more satisfaction in the finished product.
