Major: Psychology
Why did you choose to pursue your degree?
I have always been interested in how the brain works. I hope to use my minors as well (Criminal Justice and Legal Studies) to combine my interests and work within the legal field using my background in Psychology.
What types of jobs are available for students who share your major?
There are an abundant supply of jobs for those in the Psychology field, although many of them require at least a masters degree. Those with a background in Psychology can go into counseling, marketing, research, or human resources, just to name a few.
How will you use your degree upon graduation?
I plan on going to graduate school to obtain at least a masters in Psychology and a Law Degree. From there, I hope to find a job that combines my interests, doing things like trial consulting and offering expert testimony. I may also choose the path of an attorney and use my background in Psychology to help me analyze cases.
What activities are you involved in?
I am involved with Campus Crusade for Christ. I lead a women’s bible study on campus and I am head of the Outreach team for Campus Crusade. I am involved in Sophomore Service Honorary, and I am a tour guide for the Admissions Office. I am also a youth group leader at Fairhope United Methodist Church in Louisville, Ohio.
What elements should a person possess in order to succeed in your major?
I think Psychology, as well as any program at Mount Union, takes dedication. You must be committed to your school work, and possess a genuine interest in your studies. I also think time management plays a huge role in the success of a student. If you are able to manage your time well, you should have no problem being successful.
What advice can you offer for someone who is considering having the same major as you?
My advice is to research how many different areas you can go into through the field of Psychology. There are so many opportunities that I did not realize until taking certain classes. The possibilities seem endless.
