Why did you choose to pursue american studies at Mount Union?
As an education major with a concentration in Social Studies, I felt that this would be an excellent way to broaden my spectrum of knowledge and gain insight in my concentration.

How will you use your degree upon graduation?
I will incorporate the theories and ideas accumulated through my coursework in American Studies into my classroom. The goal of the American Studies program is to give the student an appreciation of the American civilization as a vital culture with its own traditions, customs, values, ideals, ethics and myths, and an understanding of its relationship to other civilizations. By incorporating these values into my classroom, I believe my students will be enriched on a higher level and will appreciate what this country stands for.

What activities are you involved in?
Alpha Chi Omega social sorority, Alpha Lambda Delta scholastic freshman honorary, and Kappa Delta Pi education honorary.

Elements a person should possess to succeed in your minor?
A person should have a true appreciation of the American culture be able to compare it to the cultures of other countries. They should also be open minded and have strong critical thinking skills.

What advice can you offer for someone who is considering having the same minor as you?
The advice I would offer to someone who is considering to have the same minor as me would be to take advantage of the flexibility in the choices of courses and take classes that will intrigue you. Students can choose from a wide array of courses in which to fulfill this minor. I believe one will obtain the most from this minor if they plan their coursework ahead of time and choose classes that they believe they will be able to extract information from that will be useful in their future.
