Elements a person should possess to succeed in your major?
People wanting to learn any language must possess a sincere desire to learn. You will only get out of the program as much as you put into it. You should be willing to study and practice German outside the classroom on your own time.

What advice can you offer for someone who is considering having the same major as you?
My first piece of advice to anyone considering studying a language would be to study abroad early. My speaking abilities advanced the most when I was studying in Germany. When abroad you are totally immersed in the language and culture. Having this experience under your belt will prepare you for the upper level courses. Secondly, I strongly urge you to participate in class as much as possible. You can only learn so much by reading the book and sitting in class. If you want to master the German language, you need to practice it as much as possible.
