Hometown:
Sulphur Springs, OH
Major:  Physical Education and Health

Why did you choose to pursue your degree? I chose to become a teacher because, for a large part of my life, I have been in a school.  Being the son of a single mother who also taught, I spent many hours playing in the gymnasium and the teacher workroom.

What types of jobs are available for students who share your major? If a prospective teacher is willing to relocate, there are a multitude of jobs, especially in the South.

How will you use your degree upon graduation? After graduation, I will be moving to Eastern North Carolina and teaching elementary physical education.  Also, I want to coach wrestling.

What activities are you involved in? Currently, I'm a member of the Raider wrestling team and  wrestle at the 149/156 weight class.  I am also in Alpha Lambda Delta and Kappa Delta Pi.

What elements should a person possess in order to succeed in your major? The most important characteristic a teacher should possess is the view that all students are equal and deserve equal educational opportunities.  As Bob Marley said it best, “One Love.”  In order to be a successful teacher, the desire to help people must be woven throughout the person.

What advice can you offer for someone who is considering having the same major as you?
Be patient and stick with it.  Some of the class work might not make sense now, but after some field experience, the theories and practices will all come together.
