Major: Business Administration
Why did you choose to pursue your degree?
I have developed a great passion for entrepreneurship and business since I was a kid. While in elementary school, I borrowed money from my mother and hired two friends to make and then sell bracelets. I do not remember making a lot of money, but it was very fun for me and my group of friends (we even made hand-written order forms and receipts). The “fun” experiments from childhood gradually become a profound interest. At the moment, I am working on a business project targeted to Mount Union students. Business to me is no longer a career choice; it is a passion that I want to pursue.
I also believe that some of the most influential charity organizations are actually successful companies. Businesses, like Microsoft, invent technologies that change people’s lives. They create jobs for people – teach them how to fish, not just give them a fish. In short, the impacts are micro/macroeconomic, social and personal. This belief inspires me to pursue business as a career.
What types of jobs are available for students who share your major?
There are a wide variety of jobs in many fields for business students, which is a big advantage. For example, you can work as an accountant at Kaiser Hospital, a sales representative at Cisco Systems, or a financial analyst at Bank of America. It all depends on what you want, and where you want to be.
How will you use your degree upon graduation?
My current plan is to work at a big corporation (possibly in the financial services industry) for two years, and then proceed to get my MBA at a graduate school. My ultimate goals are to open my own company, make a lot of money, and use money to fund service projects.
What activities are you involved in?
I devote a lot of my time in Residence Life as a Community Educator. I also serve as a secretary for AIS (Association of International Students). Other organizations that I’m involved in are Alpha Mu Gamma and Alpha Lambda Delta. In my free time, I usually practice singing and piano, work out and read.
What elements should a person possess in order to succeed in your major?
- Communication skills
- Perseverance
- Motivation
- Organization/ time management
What advice can you offer for someone who is considering having the same major as you?
This is a very hard question, since business is such a broad concept. The most useful advice I have got is to do what you love and follow your dreams (which can apply to any major). Most jobs in business are stressful and demanding, so if you don’t love what you do your life will be miserable. Take the time to find what you love, pursue it with perseverance and you’ll find success and happiness.
