The College’s primary health and wellness complex has been named The McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex – or the MAAC for short – in honor of Richard ’50 and Dorothy (Werstler ’49) McPherson, whose generosity provided for the McPherson Center for Human Health and Well-Being in 1996 as well as for this latest addition and renovation.

As part of the Drive for Distinction campaign, the MAAC will include a two-story fitness center, a field house, a natatorium, an auxiliary gymnasium, a wrestling center, an indoor track and tennis courts. There will also be an exercise science center and laboratory, an athletic training facility, classrooms, laboratories, office spaces and an area dedicated to student recruitment. The Timken lobby will also feature the members of the M Club Hall of Fame.

“Both of these facilities are fundamental to our ability to recruit and retain students,” said Dr. Richard F. Giese, president of Mount Union.  “The Gartner Welcome Center will provide an excellent first impression of our campus with its beautiful view of the Campus Lakes, and the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex is arguably one of the finest multi-purpose complexes among schools our size.  We are very thankful for the generosity of the Gartners, McPhersons, Rodmans, Fortunes and many others who made these projects possible.  Their dedication and support have truly made these much-needed campus facilities a reality.”

Timken Physical Education Building

The Timken building includes a performance arena with three full-size basketball and volleyball courts that is the home for the varsity volleyball, wrestling and men’s and women’s basketball teams with a seating capacity of 3,000.  Also housed in the facility is a state-of-the-art sports medicine center that includes an athletic training room, offices, rehabilitation center and hydrotherapy facilities.  The Office of Athletics is located here along with classrooms, the M Club meeting room and an interactive kiosk that includes the M Club Athletic Hall of Fame.

Peterson Field House

The Field House features a 200 meter NCAA regulation indoor track for hosting college and high school meets, batting cages and indoor practice space for baseball, softball and golf.  It also provides recreational and varsity practice space for basketball, volleyball and tennis.

Hammond Natatorium

The Natatorium includes a pool and diving area for recreation and varsity athletic completion.  This home of the varsity swimming and diving team includes office space, storage, a scoreboard and seating for 1,000 spectators.

McPherson Center for Human Performance, Health and Well-Being

The McPherson Center is the home for the Department of Human Performance and Sport Business with faculty offices, a student lounge and state-of-the-art classroom and laboratory facilities.

Recreation and Fitness Center

A two-story atrium takes you into a fitness center that has two floors dedicated to cardiovascular and weight equipment.  An auxiliary gymnasium features a full-size college regulation court and a multipurpose room is also featured in the facility.  The varsity wrestling team has its own practice facility and locker room space here as well.
